Bad special effects make the video look scruffy the audience could see this in a negative way because it does not look good or they could find it quite humorous because of how bad the special effects are.

The special effects in this video are effective and would capture the audiences attention. As we can see in this video the artist himself is moves his hands  and the tape mimics his actions. This is fascinating because we don't really see that in a music video. The artist has also thought outside the box by adding these interesting special effects in his music video.

By doing this the artist could be reaching out to a wider target audience because of that video. You can tell that the artist has worked hard on the video just from the special effects. The audience will now think that he is a serious artist who puts time and effort into his music videos.

In this music video called crazy for love by bey-once and Jay-z. It shows the audience that it is cutting to the beat making it more enjoyable to watch and looks professional and coordinated.  
This music video represents the artist in a professional way because they are able to cut to the beat and make the music video look interesting. In this video we can see where it cuts to the beat. Every that little horn plays in the background thats when  it cuts and this horn comes about every 4 beats. This makes the music video look well thought about and portrays the artist as a serious hard worker.

Videos that cut to the beat look so much more efficient because it looks in place. If the music video did not cut to the beat it would look scruffy and the audience would not like it because it does not look right.

Music Video That Does Not Cut To The Beat

This music video called I wanna rock right now by the artists Black eyed peas does not show any examples of cutting to the beat. If this song did not have good animations and some other things they included in the music video it would not be seen as a good music video as the audience would find it boring. 

As you can see form this video it does not cut form the beat. Although this is a good music video it would have been a good idea to make it cut to the beat as it looks more tidy and professional.

When the audience watch this music video they would think its good obviously because its a good music video but some of the audience would be able to pick out that it does not cut to the beat which could have made the music video more interesting when watching it

the audience by keeping them occupied.

Having a range of varied camera language suggests to the audience that the artist is very creative as they are able to use a whole range of sots to make their music video look more interesting for the audience.

Videos like this are not entertaining for the audience as there is not a range of shots and settings for the audience to see. Music videos like this are usually done in one setting which makes it even more dull. 

We see in this music video that there is not that much varied camera language and due to that this music video is quite boring to watch and this is how the audience would feel. This music video contains a shot that is straight on for the majority of the music video. This video needs to have varied camera langue included to make it interesting for the audience. Although this is only one song with not that much varied camera language it would still make a difference if it was included with in the music video.

The artist has probably done this because maybe he had ran out of ideas and just wanted to get a video out there.

This music video displays how having a bad green screen can be very effective on the audience. When there is a music video with bad green screen it makes the artist and the music video quite unprofessional.

When you watch a music video with a green screen included in it should be able to look presentable to the audience.This video does not do that in this video, We can see in this video that the green screen is not that good.To the audience this may look unpresentable because of the way it looks.

Maybe the artist has done the green screen like this to make it suit with the actual music video and what the song is about and that is why the green screen could look bad.

Lip syncing is when the artist mimics the song either doing it well or poorly. When you lip sync it is a good idea to act in the song style to persuade the audience that you are not lip syncing It would also be a good idea to know the song lyrics as well.

In this video we can see the artist madonna lip syncing. If you watch this video carefully you can see some of her words don't match in time when she is saying it. You can also see how she gets into different positions while obstructing her mouth to make it easier for her to lip sync

If the artist performs the lip sync to the poor standard the audience could look at this in a negative way because.it would look like she just rushed it and couldnt not be bothered to do the music video proply.

Artists may lip sync because they might not have enough time to complete the music video. Or they could have a sore throat so they just mime the words.

Genre Video

A genre video is when everything in the video signifies what that music video is. E.g. location, costume, props and situations. Snoop dog has made a song called who am I in this music video you can tell that he is portraying himself to be a gangster and a rebel you can see this at 1.04   by doing this he is showing the audience will be able to tell that snoop dog is a gangster/rebel. The significance of this video is to tell the audience that he is all about his girls which is shown at 0.23 you can see he is also about his gang and we can see that most of them are from the black ethnicity at 2.58 

From this music video we can come to our conclusion of what genre music video this is because towards the end we see a lot of partying going on followed on by women in a club wearing limited clothing. We can also tell this is a hip hop video because of the costumes that they are wearing. We are aware that there is lots of chains hanging from necks we also see that there are lots of expensive alcohol drinks around on tables at 3.59.

Genre Subverting Video  

   

A genre subverting video is when the artist is doing the opposite of what the actual music video is meant to be seen as. By doing this the music video does not match the genre of the song and this is shown by changing everything up such as props, clothing and actions.

In this video we see how the artist Eminem is showing some subversion with in this music video. you can see a lot of things that you don't really see in a hip hop music video. At 0.09 seconds you can see that the artist is wearing an old fashioned suit and his hair is done a certain way just to clarify this look. In a normal hip hop music video you would normally see a lot of chains and backwards caps etc. You can also understand that the artist is performing to the old people at 0.25 even though this is not a real audience the artist is performing too, it is still showing some subversion as you would think that the audience would be wearing baggy clothing and maybe see them dancing with girls or something along those lines.

Performance Music Video

A performance video is when it looks live in an arena. there are other ways of creating performance videos as well such as it not being live but was recorded live,or when you see them playing or singing the song

An example of this video is a music video created by Jay-z and Kanye West Paris. At the 0.31 you can see that the artists are performing on a stage. In this music video you can see how the artists have added lots of cool effects while being on stage the significance of this is that it makes it more interesting for the audience as you do not really see a lot of music videos of this type.

We can also tell that this is a performance video because of the way the two artists are performing in front of a crowd at 1.14 this shows the artist Jay-z performing to a crowd. As footage has been taken out of a concert to shoot this video it would be a performance video because they are being recorded live performing to a crowd.

I think some people will like this style music video because you do not see many artists recording live then making into a music video. At 2.20 you can also see that the artist is standing on a stage performing to an audience.

Narrative Music Video

A narrative is a music video with a developing story line 

A narrative video is meant to capture the audience as it tells a story. This signifies how powerful a narrative music video can be because it engages with the audience where as a normal music video is just there to be watched. By engaging with the audience the artist will become well known for their work. A narrative video should be easy to follow most narrative music videos go into deep meaning leaving the audience thinking. Some narrative music videos even have a sequel so that each music video produced there should be a story line and when looking back on them they should create one big story.

In this narrative music video the artists Krept and Konan convey a true story line throughout this music video.From seconds 32 to 38 the artist explains whats going on in that time and these are one of the points that make this a narrative music video. When watched you should also be able to tell what the story line is in this music video. By the artist including the story line it makes it interesting for the audience but the other thing that really makes this narrative music video outstanding is that the video is also true. This has made the audience more connected to the artists especially when the music video can be seen to be quite upsetting. From 3.52 to 3.58 we can also see there's some more narrative features taking place as the artist is telling us what is telling us the story the action is played within the music video making it easier for the audience to follow. This particular music video should be easy to follow because as the artist is describing what’s going on in the lyrics we can also see that happening in the music video at the same time.

Animation Music Video

An animation video is any music video with animation included in the music video.

 This Music video includes animation to make it stand out from other songs which we  see to be just another music video. I would say most animated music videos are made for the younger age as you do not see much adults looking for an animated music video as their first option.

You can simply tell this is an animated video from just looking at it.

Interpretive Music Video

An interpretive music video is when a music video interprets the video and where the video should match the words exactly

Interpretive music videos display what the artist is saying in the lyrics and this should be clear and understandable when doing so, Most interpretive music videos are interesting as it allows the audience to gain their own thoughts from the music video

This video called like a boss by a music group called the lonely island shows us how interpretive music videos can be displayed. At 0.27 we hear the artist saying have my own bathroom at this point where he said that we have a shot of him in his own bathroom looking pleased. We also see at 41 we also hear the artist saying cry deeply and again we have a shot of the artist crying deeply.

These types of music videos are good for the institution because they can be seen as interesting and this could help the music video get well known as well as the record label. But the bad thing is that not many people are into these videos as they are quite abstract and this could be a downfall for the record label.

Impressionist Music Video

An example of an impressionist music video is when the mood and the pace of the song match

We can tell this is a impressionist video because we discover the actors in this video moving with the beat at seconds 2-4. An impressionist video is meant to have everything moving with the beat. This gives it an interesting effect. By doing this it makes it more interesting to watch for the audience because they can distinguish the people moving to the beat it also would make it a good music music video to dance to.  





From seconds 43 to 45 you can see how the artists were moving in beat with the song. for the audience who is watching this it makes it very effective as it shows signs of co-ordination and professionalism

As we can see that this song is quite fast paced. So i order to make this an impressionist video the artists have made sure that all the dance moves they are performing are fast this makes the mood and pace of the song match making it more interesting for the audience to watch and enjoy. If we had a slow pace song with fast dance moves the music video would not look correct.

Surreal/Abstract Music Video

A surreal/abstract music video contains the actual music video being quite surprising and most of these videos contain weird features. The reason why they are made like this is to capture the audience’s attention because of how weird it is. 

These videos are made to capture the audience’s attention and make them confused but interested Most surreal/abstract music video can be seen as humorous to some of the audience and this is mainly making their music video as bizarre as possible.

In this music video called Bronx sniper by the artist mister heavenly shows a lot of surreal moments with in the music video. In the first 60 seconds of this music video we already get this sense of strangeness going on when what likes to be father starts shouting at his son for playing with a doll.

Then at 1.13 we have a shot of a strange man what appears to be the doll coming to life. At this moment the audience should already find this weird and quite disturbing as you do not see a man  covered in some sort of milk in an everyday music video.

At 2.25 we have some more evidence that this could be a surreal/abstract music video because we can see the man doing some crazy dancing in the middle and we have a shot of the bike as well. We can also see most of the man swinging from lights and breaking walls this would indicted to the audience that these are weird crazy people and they would then come to their conclusion that this is a weird video because of the actions they are performing with in the video. By doing this it makes it more exciting for the audience to watch as you do not really see lots of crazy things going on in the everyday music video. This is also giving the artist a reputation. That he is crazy and that he is a rebel who does not really follow the rules.

Pastiche/Homage Music Video

A pastiche /homage video is when a music video includes the same things as another media 
text e.g Camera angle, surroundings  and costumes

These types of music videos contain the same location or theme as another media text and this is not quite the same as a parody. This is more serious and professional compared to a parody.

In this music video called tonight tonight performed by the artists the smashing pumpkins we can see where they have included homage with in their music video and this can be seen at 4.16 We can come to our conclusion that this is  a homage video because we have the same setting and some of the key features in the film are also illustrated in this music video. For example when we see a moon with a face. We can also see at 1.19 that the artists are wearing some of the same style clothes in the film called Tonight Tonight

Another point that indicates to us that this is a homage style video is the setting of the music video. We can easily tell that this setting is slightly copied. As you can see we have two pictures one being the original film and one being the music video. You can tell that these two shots are quite similar and that the music video one has just changed a little bit.

Parody Music Video

A parody music video is where the video takes the mick out of another media 

text while copying it at the same time.

An example of a parody video is by Bart Baker-Magic Rude. In this video you can see how this artist is  the mic out of the band called Magic. We can tell this is a parody music video because it looks humorous when watching it and it is in the sames setting as the real music video. We can also see how this would come across as a parody because f the same type of tune and at the minute of 1.28 you can see where the settings are the same.

Here as you can see two videos. One video is the one from the actual song the real music video is at the bottom. The music video above this you can find Bart Baker making the surroundings quite same you can also see that he is trying to match the clothing together .We can recognise the little drum sets are placed in the same position as well.

We can also identify how this music video could be signified as a parody because of how the artist is acting. He is not really taking it seriously like the real artist.

This is done to make the audience laugh and it is also different from normal music videos.

Referencing 

Reference music videos include footage from another text

As we see from this music video it is a cover of Michael Jackson smooth criminal. This music video contains the same lyrics and beat the only thing that is different is that it is performed by another artist.

At 33 seconds we can see that the artist copies one of Michael Jackson famous moves when he is tilting downwards. Reference video seem more serious compared to a pastiche or parody music video.

In this version of the song we also see a lot of copying the real artists actions. This would make it more effective for the audience because they might enjoy this and respect it because 
it is a good version of the original song as well as it being a serious focused music video.

Towards the end of the song starting from 2.44 we can also hear the little screaming voice that happens at the end of the original version of the song. This is good because it shows that the artist is taking this seriously by thinking about what else they can add to make it sound like the original version.

Music videos are made for a various amount of reasons but the main reason for making music videos is to promote a new music release. Music videos allow the audience to see a visual representation of the artist or the song. A music video is most likely to go viral instead of  a normal song without the video as having a music video will connect more with the audience as this is the artists own interpretations. By promoting a music video it allows the artist to be seen when not performing which gives the audience a thrill for the artist. Music videos also enhance the artists brand as we can see at 1.55 the artist Ylvis is portrayed as an out of the ordinary character because he is dressed up in an obscure fox suit which you do not see in an everyday music video. The music video communicates the energy values and style of the artist because if it did not the audience would not know that genre appeals to them.it also reinvents the artist in themselves.

Visual Representation  

Music videos allow the artist to make a visual representation of them for example Nicki Minaj gives herself a visual representation of herself in the music video she has produced called Anaconda. This music video reveals the artist Nicki Minaj as a sex symbol this conveys that men are attracted to her as you can see at 4.15. Lots of women desire to be like her because her extraordinary body features and that is what she is exchanging with the audience in this music video. Visual representations enable the artist to show themselves off and this allows the audience to apprehend what the artist is all about. Without a visual representation the audience would not be able to figure out if they are passionate of the artist because they would not know what the artist is really about. This is good for Nicki Minag's record label because it makes it easier to create the target audience as Nicki Minag is quite popular in the music industry.

EXTEND  PLAYABILITY

Extend playability is when a song is old but still in fashion because it is a good song.

The song never going to give you up produced by Rick Ashley is an old video as you can see throughout the whole video. This song is played on music channels as well as being a redirection video for if something is blocked. By doing this this song is still being noticed even though it is quite old. We can come to a conclusion that this is an old music video at 2.20 you can see that the clothes that he is wearing is quite old fashioned indicating to the audience that this is an old music video.

By extending the playability this allows DVD collections. This is good for the institution because they are able to make money from the sales that come in from the DVD collection. They could even use the money to extend the play ability even more.

Synergy is when a film production ties into a music video as you can see in this video fast and furious.

By including synergy it gets awareness for the music video or the film. If people do not know about the movie and they watch the music video they would the probably look into it more and it goes the same for the other way around. Synergy also gives the artist a chance to enter s new section into the media industry. For example an actor in this film called Tyrese Gibson he started out acting  in this film but know he also sings getting the best of both sections of the media industry.

It is also good for the institution because it creates a wider audience because they have added the film to create a music video.

We can tell that this is a synergy music video because we see some of the film in this music video at 2.14 They are also shooting this music video on the same set that the film was made on. In this music video you can tell that it is from the film because of the scenes that are included with in the film.

Including art in a music video can be extremely interesting for the audience.

To make this even more intriguing artist add technology into it to make it more amusing for the audience. Some artists even add a storyline to their music videos and this could be more unforgettable than the normal music video because it keeps the audience engaged. By keeping the audience engaged it makes them tune in to whatever is going on with the artist.

For the audience of the artist they would be able to find songs they like within social media. This can be good because it would be easily accessible for the audience to find and it is also free to the audience to watch. The advantage for the artists is that they can become well known and this will attract record labels from all over the world trying to buy them. It can even lead on to them making money from this making them rich. For the record label it could be good because they would be making a lot of money if the music video is really successful. Companies allow music videos on their page because they think they could make money from it so they sponsor the artist but sometimes it does not always workout because that video could get more dislikes than likes that would mean no progress has been made

MainStream Tv

Mainstream TV are big major channels like BBC ITV SKY 1 and channel 4 and channel 5 most of these channels show a party music genre and as well as being shown outside they can also watch it inside and introducing themselves to a new music genre.For the audiences point of view this would be a chance to listen to something different for a change instead of listing to the usual. This can be advantage because if the person who has just been introduced to this music genre like this they will most likely attend their concerts getting more attached with the artist and that will count towards another fan. The disadvantage of this is that the institution cant control when it gets put on and this is bad because they wont be able to spread their music channel as much  they could do if they could put it on when ever they want and another on the other hand the mainstream TV channels  censor their music videos and this is good because parents would not want their littlechildren listening and copying the bad things they see on TV.

Music channels is where you can view different types of music for each genre for example MTV dance MTV hip hop and these music channels are always going to be showing music videos. The idea of music channels is good because the audience will be able to keep  to date with new music videos as well as it being free, Music channels do not include any downloading it will be swift and will run through right until the end as it is not a computer and will not catch any viruses. Music channels are good because you can rewind and record them so you’re not missing out on anything. They are also good because there are lots of different types of genres you can listen too so the person who is watching it will not be entitled to watch one genre. But there are some bad points about Music channels. The advertisements ruin the flow of the music video mood. Most channels like Chanel AKA are censored because there's bad language or it is too explicit and sometimes you might not have the music video you want so you may have to buy them which some audience will not be willing to do. The record label will get paid if the artist is doing well enough for example MTV music paid snoop dog a lot of money to put one of his number one hits on the channel by doing this snoop dog has received a whole lot of publicity and has opened a lot of doors for him. Sometimes the company or record label does not have enough control this could be seen as a negative.


Direct CD/Special Edition CD/DVD Releases 

A direct Cd/Special edition CD/DVD is when a famous artist will release a DVD with their music video on it. These CD's can be easy to find as you can find them at your local store like Tesco or Salisbury etc. and the good thing about the special CD is that you get to watch the music videos and that's what some of the audience may be looking for. The thing that lets this down is that I think that some of the CD's are too expensive compared to the others and I think that the audience would find this a let-down as well. You are not really control of these music videos you can't say which one gets to go onto the Cd and which one don’t. Another bad thing about this is that you need a CD player to play the CD I think that the old fashioned CD player has gone out of style now these days so I think some of the audience would be looking for something better to watch the music video on. As these music videos are quite expensive and keeping in mind they charge even more for a special I think the company would be making a lot of money from selling these products. This special CD will be making money for the institution as well as the making money for the artist. The bad thing about this is that making the special CD's can be more expensive to produce than a down which means that the company are using more money for the same thing basically.

Streaming Websites

Streaming websites are any websites that you can stream a music video on and can watch it whenever you want like You Tube ITunes etc. Streaming websites are talented because there free of charge means that the audience will use this more simply because it’s free. I myself like using streaming websites because its free and accessible. There are many different types of genres that the audience could watch and this is useful because you are not entitled to stick to one genre for example when I use you tube I find it easy to search for any type of music video genre I want because I'm free to searching for what I like. A disadvantage is that there are adverts that waste time and breaks down the flow when searching for a music video. Some videos have an age restriction from letting you watch certain videos. Although this could be seen as a pro it can also be viewed as a con because the audience may be into that sort of genre they are trying to search for. The record label can make money if the artist is successful like the artist 'PSY' the song he made 'Gang man Style' made over 1billion views and made about £ 8.1 billion pounds. This was a chance for the artist and the record label to get tons of publicity. On the bad side of this some artists and their record labels get a bad review because their music video was seen to be too explicit. Due to some research I have found on the Internet rapper named Skepta had a video call 'All over the house' This music video was too explicit for the viewers to watch so the record label and artist had a lot of negative reports as well as the music video being shut down and obviously they have lost money from this.

The artist’s website is an official website where the artist or their manager posts music videos where you can go directly on there and watch the artist’s music videos. The artist’s website is efficient for the audience because they can watch the artists video for free and everybody likes things that are free it saves the audience from paying to watch their video. If you are a big fan you can also buy merchandise from the website for example Beyoncé has her own clothing line on her official website followed on by accessories and fragrances this attaches the audience to the artist even more. You ca also watch the artists music video as frequently as you want this is good because if you really like the video you can just watch the video over and over again without running out of a trial etc. The artist’s official website is also suitable because the artist or manager will keep you informed about stuff that is going on with the music videos and the artist there self. The downside for the audience is that because it’s an official website there might be a chance of a various amount of things you will have to pay for instead of it being free and they often charge a lot on official websites as I have seen on Beyoncé’s official website. Not all artists official websites have music videos on them some official websites may just have the song without the video this would be disappointing to some of the audience because they may enjoy watching music videos of their favourite artist. Some of these websites are also not up to date when I was researching an artist called chief keefs there last update was about a year ago so for the viewers they could be quite annoyed because their favourite artist is not keeping the audience updated with music videos. For the company this can be wholesome because they are making money from selling merchandise from the official website they can then use that money to spend on the artist and some more things to participate in their merchandise making. The company pull the audience in by making the website look and feel official when using it.

When you have an audience ad they are really into the artist they are most likely to buy merchandise making the company well know. The company keeps the audience informed about the music videos by doing this they are showing that they keep updating which will make people like and get more viewers. The unpleasant part about this is that not everyone knows about the site. The official website could get shutdown because music video is too explicit.
